This wallking and cycling route from Newry Town Hall to the Bann Bridge in Portadown and is a 20 mile trip on part of route 9 of the National Cycle Network.
The route follows the towpath on the western bank of the now, non-navigable, Newry Canal. Newry Canal was the first summit level canal built in the British Isles. A leaflet outlining the route can be obtained from Newry Tourist Office.
The cross-border rail service, which connects Belfast and Dublin calls at Portadown and Newry and can accommodate bicycles. Bicycle carrying is limited, please contact the Northern Ireland Railways before setting out.
Access to the Canal Towpath can be gained from either WIN Industrial Estate or Carnbane Industrial Estate.
